really depends on the context. clinicians have told me the trauma-triggered sudden-onset versions don't always go away. that's reality

Severity of dysphoria is a measured variable that predicts persistence. Most "desistance" cases don't meet diagnostic criteria.

So we don't have a foolproof way to know who will persist or desist. The kids in study had been diagnosed with gender dysphoria.
