Thank you for that. Learning.

Well this is all interesting but really not my area of expertise so trying to discuss via twitter is reductive & perilous.

Plz just realize "affirm only" has led to a trend of ID'ing some "gender nonconforming" kids as trans. That's what the Op-Ed was about.

But I really appreciate your civil tone in disagreeing and offering alternatives.. Refreshing in this medium.

Everyone means well in this. There is just a lack of balance in mainstream coverage. Lisa's Op-Ed provided some. Thank you too for engaging.

What do u suggest I read? An open hearted approach seems intuitive. I've seen kids from such families eventually land across the spectrum.

Support crucial, but support for gender defiance doesn't have to mean endorsing "wrong body." This is a good piece. http://thejungsoul.com/some-thoughts-on-authenticity/ …

With all respect, there's a downside to NOT affirming. Suicide risk is sky-high, but goes down 97% with an affirming parent.
-
I say again: 97%. To NOT affirm a child's trans identity (and yes, they may well desist, but they're most likely not to) is a huge risk.
