For years, your site has been the go-to for takedowns of quackery & pseudoscience. But by studiously ignoring the flood of detransitioners, particularly women who regret adolescent transition, you allowed @ScienceBasedMed to fall prey to confirmation bias. Disappointing.https://twitter.com/gorskon/status/1410219346748715010 …

Yes, some people benefit from transition. But your cavalier dismissal of the increase in tween/teen girls not just identifying as trans, but getting double mastectomies & irreversible hormone treatment, along with the voices of women like
@lacroicsz &@ImWatson91 is inexcusable.1 reply 3 retweets 47 likesShow this thread -
Are you even aware that several countries have slowed down if not banned underage medical transition? (see: Sweden and Finland) or that a UK High Court ruled in favor of a detransitioner
@KLBfax who believes she was unable to give informed consent for the treatment she received?1 reply 5 retweets 45 likesShow this thread -
You've been known for doing thorough research to debunk quackery. It's time to do more on pediatric medical transition. You owe your readers more than the cherry-picked references you chose for your long article.

Your editor
@gorskon should stop with snarky comments like an immature teenage boy, about a subject he knows little. And if you think the backlash against underage medicalization is just some right-wing nonsense, you have truly not been paying attention.https://twitter.com/lacroicsz/status/1407045022655057924?s=20 …4thWaveNow added,
helena @lacroicszis it still a conspiracy theory if i can personally say that trans influencers and online trans communities influenced me to identify as trans, transition, and then regret my transition? and that the same thing happened to most of my teenage female friends? https://twitter.com/gorskon/status/1407019161038082051 …1 reply 3 retweets 44 likesShow this thread -
Even a number of trans people are calling attention to the phenomenon--start with
@Aaron_GDAC@elegationvain . They and others can point you to research & professionals who understand the risks inherent in minors undergoing medical transition.1 reply 2 retweets 33 likesShow this thread -
Don't be just another outlet refusing to address the gray areas on this issue. You're better than that--or you were.https://spectatorworld.com/topic/media-wrong-gender-reassignment-transgender/ …

Please
@stevennovella. Follow up your unbalanced and confirmation-bias-tainted article with something true to the legacy of@ScienceBasedMed . Apply your well-honed skepticism to the sacred cow of pediatric gender medicine which relies on the flimsiest of low-quality evidence.2 replies 3 retweets 41 likesShow this thread -

Even
@Newsweek has covered the topic with nuance. By the way, Grace is another voice you ought to listen to. She's not "anti-trans" but speaks eloquently about why she believes she would have benefited from more careful assessment before transitioning.https://twitter.com/HormoneHangover/status/1408454341015617538 …4thWaveNow added,

Also, there's a major fallacy in your article, a mistake many make: There is NO WAY to know how many people actually regret transition, because most never return to the clinic where they received services. There is also high "lost to followup" in all studies. Look it up.

If @gorskon & @stevennovella are interested in hearing from young people who did not benefit from transition — and you should be interested, in the name of science — you could start with this interview with @detransgayguy conducted yesterday.https://youtu.be/6-ryJegz7no

You two seem most interested in making sure young people get access to gender affirmation treatment. What would you say to Garrett, who received an orchiectomy & believes he was affirmed too quickly? Don’t you owe your readers coverage of experiences like his? If not, why not?
