this bothers me immensely. realising i was a lesbian at 16 was a /crucial/ part of my decision not to transition, and that realisation relied on puberty and sexual development. sexual orientation is a huge part of personal identity, and depriving teenagers of that is so wrong. https://twitter.com/stellaomalley3/status/1382258278810406913 …

imo, this is the single biggest ethical problem with puberty blockers: blocking puberty directly interferes with the sexual development of children who are, statistically, probably not straight, and prevents them from figuring this out until they've already taken hrt.

if there's even a chance that a child / teen is homosexual, they should not be chemically castrated, temporarily or otherwise, unless it's somehow extremely medically necessary. i don't know how this is controversial.

(obviously heterosexual kids shouldn't be subjected to this either, but the implications of doing this to non-heterosexual people specifically should be obvious!)

There's actual research data on this, most importantly that--on average--lesbians don't fully embrace their orientation until late teens/early 20s. Coming out is a lengthy process, & these gender docs are short-circuiting it. Another researcher who has pointed this out is Alexander Korte in Munich. In 2008, he wrote that blocking puberty could prevent the "decisive experiences" needed to integrate one's sexuality.https://twitter.com/4th_WaveNow/status/1173214997591339009?s=20 …

Why isn't this discussed more often? Highly recommended 2008 paper. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2697020/ … pic.twitter.com/WRNpRalOgq1 reply 5 retweets 5 likes

There's video of a recent interview with Korte in this thread. It's a real shame the mainstream media, especially in the US, refuse to seek out experts like Korte, but only rely on trans activists or 'affirmative' gender clinicians for their articles.https://twitter.com/4th_WaveNow/status/1195403258484932616?s=20 …
