The largest award in US history ever ordered in a malpractice suit vs. a mental health practitioner is also discussed in the article. To the extent MPD/DID has any validity, *everyone* should be cautious in working w/ a therapist who promotes it unquestioningly. Caveat emptor.pic.twitter.com/l21ugI9qUn

"It seems likely that iatrogenic factors do not typically create DID in vacua but instead operate in many cases on a preexisting substrate of psychopathology, such as BPD." Iatrogenic = caused by the therapeutic process itself BPD = Borderline Personality Disorderpic.twitter.com/mnxCklN86X

I encourage anybody who reads the article linked above to read current literature on DID as opposed to the articles selected by 4thwaveNow, selectively taken from the lit of 80's and 90's, to fit their narrative. 1/https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4959824/ …

But to summarise .. 1. DID is not an iatrogenic disorder 2. DID patients can be reliably and validly diagnosed with structured and semistructured interviews 3. DID can be differentiated from BPD & other psychiatric DXs. 2/

DID is not a "controversial diagnosis" for clinicians working with extreme trauma. DID is only weird if you don't understand the context, or if you haven't listened to someone who's been tortured talk about how they survived. Read Judith Herman Trauma & Recovery.
