@NAChristakis it's a serious question if you have the time to answer. What is the empirical evidence and work done to support the idea that a *large factor* in the increase in trans ID among young people is due to social contagion? And what effect sizes do they show? - Show replies

Actually, that's probably an understatement.
@NAChristakis is probably THE leading researcher on social/peer contagion. Fowler was also right there co-authoring many of the seminal studies on the subject.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

Social contagion is everywhere and people are asleep to it. Most just fall into step with the herd. When JB Peterson referred to "gender expression" as fashion, it made it all clear to me. The people that doubt this idea need to examine why they are gluten-free.

Two situations to compare: 1. Child experiences marked gender dysphoria starting well before they know anything about transgenderism. 2. Teenager experiences substantial gender dysphoria which only begins after being introduced to the concepts of transgenderism (ROGD).

People often point out that you can't make a child trans. This is true. However.... what does seem to happen is that when some young people learn about transitioning, they start to attribute their symptoms to being in the wrong body, whereas previously, they didn't.
