A new report from Sweden confirms the unprecedented rise in gender dysphoria in young people, and esp. females. @wpath @USPATH1, what's your explanation? What evidence do you have that this new group of patients will see more good than harm from hormones and surgery? /1@ZUCKERKJpic.twitter.com/6peuDpmcrI

And while we are at it, @wpath @USPATH1, pls explain why the rates of not just depression, but autism & ADHD are so high among GD young people? Isn't it time to acknowledge that for many young people with mental health difficulties, GD does not equal "transgender"? /2pic.twitter.com/MgiAcKmWFS

And @wpath @USPATH1. You promote the narrative that 40% will try to kill themselves if they don't get hormones. The Swedish report shows 0.6% will over 20 years. Any death is tragic, but it's the risk of 0.03% per year-very comparable to many other MH conditions. So why rush? /3pic.twitter.com/qbmQ9g72fK

Ten years post treatment, women with GD kill themselves at the rate of 14x the populaiton (men, 5 x). AFTER "treatment". In all-accepting Sweden. Isn't it clear @wpath @USPATH1 that surgeries and hormones don't cure GD? Why are you promoting them, while trying to ban therapy? /4pic.twitter.com/C7OwGzahUV

Doesn't this say *within* 10 years of diagnosis (not *after* 10 years of treatment)? Also how does the rate you're talking about here fit with the .6 rate over 20 years from your prior tweet?

This is the more description of the SMR rate: "An SMR number greater than 1 means that suicide is more common among people with gender dysphoria than in the population. The standardization is done with regard to age and gender, and over a ten-year period." /1

      Replying to @ZaneEmma @4th_WaveNow and

One could read these data as consistent with 3 different conclusions re suicide (S): 1. That S in GD people continues to be high (10 yrs after DX, most would have gotten TX) 2. That overall, S not nearly as high (<1% over 20 yrs) 3. And it's no higher than other MH conditions /2

It says "within" 10 years not "after." Wouldn't that mean it could have been any time in those 10 years? (Haven't read the report, so am asking.)

Agree, not sure as I am not familiar with SMR methodology beyond what was described in the report and how they "standardized for 10 yrs". High suicidality post-treatment (19x times the general population) has also been confirmed by other studies (Dhejne).

The "within" and "after" 10 years distinction seems important (is there any further clarification in the report itself?). If most were early in the 10-year period, it would lead to a different conclusion than if they were later...

          Replying to @4th_WaveNow @ZaneEmma and

Comorbidity of mental health issues, & their contribution to higher suicidality, was something authors of the oft-incorrectly-cited US 41% survey cautioned about. (Have seen no journalist investigate this as a reason to interpret 41% with care.) http://williamsinstitute.law.ucla.edu/wp-content/uploads/AFSP-Williams-Suicide-Report-Final.pdf …pic.twitter.com/kpc77qXu0T
