In a time when you're called an ignorant bigot if you discuss the pros & cons of pediatric transition, it's crucial to be accurate in your claims. Example: Some say puberty blockers sterilize kids. No, they do not. Blockers followed directly by cross-sex hormones sterilize.

Hyperbole & hair-on-fire pronouncements are counterproductive. Watch this 5-minute video. Teens like Quinccy (& their parents) aren't going away, & they're just as determined as you are. They are ambassadors for a powerful, effective political organizationhttps://twitter.com/HRC/status/1227253458329165830 …

Thanks for explaining. Do you have other tips? Allying with homophobic bigots on legislation like like South Dakota HB 1057 banning pediatric transition make these allegations of anti LGBT bigotry stick. The US needs an @AllianceLGB chapter to unify about med trans of kids.

Absolutely. A few new orgs are on the scene in the US working on a nuanced approach: @officialGCCAN and @genderhq, and @PiqueResProject is creating multimedia content. Expect all three would appreciate hearing from others who would like to help in their efforts.

Don't forget to add that nearly 100% of kids started on puberty blockers go on to cross-sex hormones. Starting puberty blockers ends up sterilizing kids based on decisions they made at age 11. OTOH without medical transition, over 80% desist and want to live in their natal sex.

Even if PBs are followed by cross-sex hormones (CSH), which are later stopped, fertility may return (so it's not technically sterility). On the other hand, we DK if fertility is retained even if PBs are NOT followed by CSH (some can't conceive as adults). It's a live experiment.

When kids are blocked at Tanner 2, then go on to cross sex hormones, all experts say they are permanently infertile because gametes did not develop. Am not aware of anyone saying otherwise. Also, kids on GnRH agonists just for precocious puberty are not sterilized.

I know that the risk of sterilization has to be discussed, but is it possibly a mistake to use it at all as a 'headliner'/introduction to the issue? It's got a high emotive charge & anything like that seems to repel people rather than make them open to listening. Maybe I'm wrong.

I find concerns about what life-altering decisions 11 year olds can reasonably asked to make is the more compelling discussion point. And no matter what they do it, it's life altering. Just everybody please validate: THIS IS A DILEMMA.

An additional points: 1) Manufacturers HAVE NOT demonstrated safety/efficacy in children bc of "orphan drug" status 2) Strict eligibility criteria + length of therapy if used 4 precocious puberty (start @ age <9 + lab-based dx + **DISCONTINUE @ normal pub age**)pic.twitter.com/nxAbgFBVbE
