In the absence of intelligent discussion, is a moratorium better than a free-for-all? In the cases of pediatric transition, I tend to think so, but adults should be fully entitled to sterilize or kill themselves. Why SHOULDN'T "gender clinics" get rich on self-destruction? https://t.co/aoFGJDMpxd

My hope is that a moratorium will force a serious patient case to be made, particularly in the case of minors. In the absence of such a case, the state of care ten years ago may have to do.

What sort of moratorium do you envision in the US at this point? Even if a few socially conservative state legislatures pass bills banning peds transition, how will they not be viewed (and treated) the same way as states which have nearly banned abortion?https://twitter.com/4th_WaveNow/status/1222917513014472704 …

Changing hearts and minds wasn't done by social conservatives when it came to gay marriage. It's mystifying so many people fervently believe the very same politicians will do it for child transition2 replies 1 retweet 2 likes -

The multiple state bills aim to throw doctors in jail. This has provided a mass of clickbait, headlines screaming. Activist parents of trans kids are mobilizing, their kids by their sides, and "suicide or transition" is everywhere as the deep pockets start erupting with cash.

That is an excellent point, and fines toward loss of licensure would probably have been a better penalty. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bright-line_rule … I see no good way forward which does not involve the creation of explicit, legal distinction between physical sex and "gender identity" feelz.

Major medical orgs--AMA, AAP, etc--published guidelines are full-on affirmative care. Most citizens think these are respectable organizations, & WPATH SOC 8 will soon be the same. Threatening to jail MDs who merely follow those guidelines isn't going to resonate with most people.

Don't underestimate the power of HRC's council of activist parents who fervently believe medical transition saved (or will save) their children's lives. They lobby Congress with their kids. How will blanket criminal bans and cries of "child abuse" succeed? https://www.hrc.org/resources/parents-for-transgender-equality-national-council …
