We tend towards skepticism. I think it's a fair assessment! The stereotype here is that the US isn't skeptical enough! (yes that's very broad and probably unfair to many). Self-deprecation is also a major feature of much British humour.

Yes--that self-deprecation is what makes Brit humour so delightful. "Gullible" would be a fair word to describe quite a few Americans.
