"This is significant considering men who have sex with men (MSM) are still considered to be a high-risk donor group." Clearly, this is the result of lobbying by trans activists. I'm a multi-gallon Red Cross donor and recall previous, sex-specific questions, including some around previous pregnancy which males "opt out" of answering. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/science/2017/10/17/blood-transfusions-women-have-pregnant-may-lethal-men-study/ … HIV screening may have improved drastically, but there are other considerations as well.

How can this be happening? If this article is to be believed, the nation is putting its blood supply safety at risk with this policy.

The Red Cross makes money on its blood-products business, and I've heard that some see "volunteer" blood as somehow surer or safer than purchased blood. There may also be questions related to injected medications that I don't recall. Perhaps they'll test somehow? An odd choice.

The simplest thing would be simply to ask something like "is your gender identity different from your birth sex" or something like that. But undoubtedly some would consider that "transphobic."
