The Red Cross makes money on its blood-products business, and I've heard that some see "volunteer" blood as somehow surer or safer than purchased blood. There may also be questions related to injected medications that I don't recall. Perhaps they'll test somehow? An odd choice.

The simplest thing would be simply to ask something like "is your gender identity different from your birth sex" or something like that. But undoubtedly some would consider that "transphobic."
