Advocacy groups have no business in the scientific process. If you are a journalist and you want to consult an advocacy group, then that’s reasonable. But I can’t understand why empirical scientists should do so. It’s just one more way to infect science with political bias.
Scientists shouldn't "consult" an advocacy group, but studying the people who make up that group--using the scientific method--is vital. Advocacy groups have influenced too many scientists to carry their water w/out evidence. Scientists should know better.
