Some parents reach out to detransitioners for help w/their kids, but it's not their job (or their expertise). Also not every detransitioner is a regretter. And many detrans are young themselves, with a lot on their plates. Not meant to scold; just speaking from experience.https://twitter.com/lacroicsz/status/1168277972660473858 …

Even if a detransitioner is gracious enough to try to help, their advice will naturally be filtered through the lens of their experience w/their own parents (& talking to you may "trigger" memories/feelings). Not a recipe for objectivity, & may just cause more pain for everyone.

Many detransitioners are writing, making videos, & speaking out on social media. There's plenty to learn from their experiences without asking them to be unpaid counselors. Here's an excellent new article by a detransitioner, w/plenty on family dynamics. https://medium.com/@lukaswarrior/medical-transition-is-not-the-answer-47e30650cf94 …

"Allow them to dress however they want, cut their hair however they want, and choose whatever name they want. None of these things are irreversible. They should be allowed to experiment with their personality. But don’t encourage them to change their bodies."pic.twitter.com/1aIPV8bLoS

Parents want an answer, a formula, a set of bullet points. But it's never one-size-fits-all. The waiting can feel intolerable, but it's unavoidable, existential. Ultimately the decision will be made by the young person themselves--hopefully w/a dash of parental wisdom in the mix.
