Years ago, when a little boy died in Scotland under anaesthetic for a "minor operation" I recall a surgeon being interviewed and stating that there were many "minor operations " but no such thing as a "minor anaesthetic". I have kept that in mind every time I have had 1/2

unavoidable surgery and would never consider risking surgery in any other circumstances. Prior to any surgery the risks are explained. Having had surgery that subsequently failed I would also never risk surgery unless failure a lesser risk than not having surgery.

Double mastectomy is a serious surgery. That it's being touted for middle schoolers now in the US is beyond outrageous. Going under the knife, and under general anesthesia should always be last resort.
