That is true but can clearly be explained by culture - one that values attractiveness and youth above all else in women, and power and wealth in men.

But that seems inaccurate too - homosexuality is omnipresent in some cultures and unheard of in others, and the percentage of people who are gay changes within cultures over time as well. Despite endless attempts sexuality is not explained by hormone levels or genetics.

Honest question: in which culture there are no homossexuals? I've heard about very homophobic cultures denying their existence & persecuting homossexuals, but I've never heard about a culture where homossexuality didn't exist.

the article says that their is evidence of a genetic link for homosexuality and the group may have not have those genes, not an argument for cultural determinism

Actually, the existence of a culture & somewhat genetically closed population with no homossexuality does *not* show that genetics or social clues are "sole" cause for homossexuality (at least, not without a lot more research), but that it exists was already a surprise to me.

Having no concept for homosexuality doesn't even prove that it "doesn't exist". From the article: "While the Hewletts' research suggests that homosexual behavior and identity are foreign to the Aka and Ngandu, it's entirely possible that homosexual desire does exist ."

There's no reason to believe it exists, though, either.I just disagree with this idea that there's this a "true self" everyone has that exists even if they are unaware of it. I think that self conception derives from Christian theology of the soul and motivates trans ideology.

Absolutely agree on this. Who is arguing for the existence of some ephemeral "true self"? People can secretly harbor sexual feelings without revealing them to others; has nothing to do with a "true self."
