Honest question for those who say young kids' behavior is largely the result of socialization: How do you explain the detransitioned butch lesbians who talk about heavy disapproval they faced as tots for their "masculine" behaviors? Who socialized them to be so gender atypical?

The idea that socialization is only "I was told to do X so now I do X" is so reductive. I got into punk rock music because my parents were Christians. That's still a socialized interest, even if it's one that developed as a rejection of what I was being told.

Of course. No one is claiming socialization is irrelevant--just that it's not the whole story.

But isn't this like saying it's reasonable to believe in angels because "physics is real, but it's not the whole story." Of course there might be some biological differences we can never isolate. But when social descriptions and explanations satisfactorily explain our experiences

there's no reason to assume that biological determinism is also taking place - it's not logically justified but it's also not helpful in any way. What changes when we say "plus under all this social stuff, there's X or Y maybe, we don't know?"

i disagree, it is extremely helpful to recognise biological causes for behaviour because it helps make effective strategies to reduce bad behaviours

In fact, it's the *opposite* of determinism: By knowing which unwanted traits tend to be hard-wired (e.g. male violence), you can more effectively work to mitigate them--with eyes open. That's what civilization and culture (like the Rule of Law, like education) do.

Another e.g.: SO many boys are diagnosed ADHD, when they just behave like boys have throughout human history (vs. sitting quietly for 7 hrs in a classroom because they were "socialized" to do it). Understanding that could prevent some ADHD diagnoses AND change education policy.
