What's fascinating about these anecdotes: We know for a fact that some detransitioned women also wrote in, describing their negative experiences with binding and why they stopped. It appears @nytimes only saw fit to print positive experiences, and/or pro-top-surgery vignettes.

ICYMI here's the article
@nytimes is doing penance for--by any measure, balanced vis-a-vis the pros and cons of the practice of breast binding. (As with any attempt at a balanced article, there was a totally predictable trans-activist freakout over this.)https://www.nytimes.com/2019/05/31/well/transgender-teens-binders.html?module=inline …Show this thread -
"It's binding or suicide". How can
@nytimes editors think this is a good headline to run? Contravenes all standards of ethical journalism, clearly laid out by@CDCgov and@samaritans . But "ethical journalism" is becoming more and more an oxymoron.pic.twitter.com/cWo2n4Escx

Tragic. "I need to cause harm to my body or else I will be compelled to...cause harm to my body!"

Every one of those girls and women need healthier ways to love and embrace their bodies. Breasts are on a scale of love-hate, with "annoying" somewhere in the middle. For all girls and women, if it's not breasts, it's another significant part of being female. This is woman hatred

No one is asking the obvious question. Why do you hate your breasts so much? Biologically they are just instruments to feed offspring. Some trans men want children too, so why are breasts wrong? There needs to be discussion about the social context they are viewing their breasts.

Asking "why" is now deemed to be transphobic. Or so it appears.
