The point is NOT that abusive parents don't exist. Of course they do! The point is they aren't the majority. Disgruntled young people demonize even decent parents, and social media magnify and (in today's climate) reify that distorted view.

Having children does change your view, now that I have my own I look back and realise how much my mum hated me.

How about: I cut my mother a lot of slack, because she didn't have the resources to be more engaged. Still, it left me pretty screwed up in terms of emotional deficits and what I learned to expect/not expect from intimate relationships.

Maybe u don’t have kids because your parents harmed your abilities to get on with others or to be successful enough to be able to afford kids.
