Thailand was (and still is) known as a place to get skillful, inexpensive sex-change surgery done. What is less well known is that Thailand banned under-18 surgeries in 2009, and now requires parental consent for ages 18-20. Yet in the West, activists push to abolish age limits.

Ten long years ago, a Thai gay activist talked about why his organization fought (successfully) to raise the age of consent for genital surgery. As we see more regretters coming forward in the West, maybe it's time for policy-makers to heed his words?pic.twitter.com/Vqqz1lwAEt

Age of competency... My child is smart and seems very mature much of the time. That does not mean they know for sure about a matter such as medically transitioning. No tattoos, no allowed drinking, no voting, no driving, no getting sterilised.
