After a long comment period, @WHO ICD-11 renames gender dysphoria to gender incongruence. Activists won. GI is no longer in mental health section, but in "sexual health." Bottom line: GI normalized, but billable insurance codes remain for med transition. https://youtu.be/kyCgz0z05Ik

Toward end of the vid, the official compares this to the removal of homosexuality from mental disorder section many years ago. But being LGB doesn't require expensive medical intervention, so lobbyists had to make sure normalization still carried a billable diagnosis.

To be clear, homosexuality was completely EXPUNGED from the ICD years ago, as it should have been. But those who believe insurance should pay for any and all medical transition made sure gender incongruence STAYED in the ICD-11 as a "sexual health" diagnosis--for obvious reasons.

Right?! This just reads like someone who was angry when homosexuality was removed from being classed as a mental health disorder...🤦‍♂️

The “comment period” was just meant to appease us and make us think they were listening. They were planning to do this regardless of what was said.

If it just "reduces stigma" then shouldn't they move everything to a new section? Depression and Anxiety disorders, for instance.

I mean, stigma's bad, regardless of what condition we're talking about, right?

So trans have special privileges to expensive and extensive cosmetic treatments and surgeries even though they insist they are physically and mentally healthy individuals? It makes no sense. How can sexual 'health' = medicating for life and amputating healthy organs? #NHS ??

And the irony of a sexual health dx when medicalization of children, adolescence, and young adults risks sexual function altogether in their developing bodies. This "Puberty optional " equates to "no orgasm" for life.
