Dr. Olson's work boils down to this: there are kids who believe they are, or would really like to be, the opposite sex. Her cohorts are drawn from already-socially transitioned kids, w/no controls of non-transitioned kids to test for possible iatrogenic impact of transition.

In an earlier study of Olson's, children were shown pictures of prepubescent kids and asked who they identified with. The pictured kids had haircuts/clothes typical for their sex. Surprise! These gender atypical kids "identified with" the opp-sex kids. What did this prove?

Olson's studies only show that gender-atypical kids gravitate to behaviors & attire of opp-sex children--because they're ATYPICAL. Since there is no control group of gender-atypicals who aren't socially transitioned, they prove nothing more than that. Confirmation bias galore.

If you read her methods, even SHE can't define the line between "cis" kids & "gender nonconforming" kids. Because who is totally gender conforming? Barbie & Ken dolls. What is sorely missing from all this research is CONTROLS: Kids who claim to be opp sex who aren't transitioned.

Without such a controlled study, there is NO WAY to assess whether social/medical transition increases chance child will persist in a trans identity. The Dutch have called for such study. And what's the impact of starting to wear a fake penis as a toddler on persistence?

Not a control group. You need 1 group of kids who claim/want to be opp sex. They are transitioned & referred to as opp sex; other group supported as GNC but not endorsed as opp sex. How many persist in believing they are the opp sex later? (and they should be followed for years).

In point of fact, some parents in our network with desister daughters did just that--loved, supported kids and encouraged gender nonconformity but didn't endorse "wrong body." You should talk to some desisters, especially lesbians, more about this.
