There's been a lot of talk about the UK organization Mermaids. But the US equivalent is Gender Spectrum, which if anything has even more influence on policy in the US (including conferences, school policy, and more). Zero coverage of this org outside our website (so far).https://twitter.com/4th_WaveNow/status/1096132516187000832 …

In this children's book "Stacey's not a girl," the narrator (a "natal" girl) talks about hating dresses and ... barrettes! This is just a variation on the Barbie/GI Joe theme pushed by Mermaids. https://www.genderspectrum.org/blog/gender-spectrum-story-time-staceys-not-a-girl/ …pic.twitter.com/y1dzKSr14h

Most of our followers are familiar with the "barrettes" lecture by Diane Ehrensaft, a member of the Gender Spectrum board of directors.https://www.genderspectrum.org/our-board-of-directors/ …

Ehrensaft was asked by a conference attendee how a preverbal child might indicate they're transgender. Eschewing barrettes (for a baby girl) or making a dress out of a onesie (for a baby boy) can be telltale signs, she says. https://vimeo.com/185149379
