Speaking personally, as the mother of a desister (who is now comfortable as a lesbian), both she and I agree that her dysphoria came on rapidly, with no desire to be the opposite sex previously.

Agreed. And it's why, (especially before the "affirmative" craze), ethical clinicians try to help younger children come to peace in their bodies with full acceptance of being "gender nonconforming." We need more of these clinicians to step forward.
