Someone is getting desperate: The above tweet (which consists solely of a link to a research article about gender atypicality in young children being linked to later homosexuality) was reported to Twitter last night!pic.twitter.com/a90ZPvcmtX

It's difficult to find the reported tweet, though, because the original thread (it was responding to) appears to have vanished. So here it is again.https://twitter.com/4th_WaveNow/status/1076564007081766912 …

Isn't it interesting that *someone* objected to us pointing to the inconvenient truth: Gender atypical behavior in early childhood is correlated w/later homosexuality. Who wants to hush that up? Here's the mildly-stated conclusion to the article *someone* doesn't want you to see.pic.twitter.com/xsKPydcUAF

I challenge that stereotype and folk belief. There may be a higher rate of homosexuality among adults who were *eccentric* children, but MOST gay adults were NOT in fact sissy boys or butch girls. Promoting this myth can be harmful to children.

That's not what it says though. GNC children => homosexual adult does not mean that homosexual adult => GNC as child. It means that *some* homosexual adults were GNC children, and that GNC children are likelier than others to grow up homosexual.

What you say is pretty much my own POV, but it's not what I read in that passage above, which clearly proposes that children are now being identified as 'transgender' whereas 20 or 30 years ago we'd simply tag them as gay. I know of no evidence for this, furthemore 1/2

I don't think little children are that identifiable. Finally, there's the moral question of teasing and mislabeling children. Which is not only harmful to the kids, it feeds precisely those straitened, negative sex stereotypes most of us wish to avoid. 2/2

I agree they shouldn't be tagged at all at that age, but GNC children need some support to say that they are perfectly ok. Statistically they do tend to end up gay, and tagging them as trans is committing them to a medical pathway long before they can decide for themselves.

It's not so much that they were tagged as gay as that they very often ended up as gay if they weren't pushed onto a medical pathway. With 'affirmative care' they're shoved into the opposite gender role, from which they struggle to desist.

No one is "tagging" young children as gay (unlike trans activists, who even label toddlers as "trans"). It's realizing that being gender atypical--or even dysphoric--as a child is often outgrown later and a fair number of these kids grow up to be healthy, unmedicalized LG.
