Aidan Dowling started transition female to male in his early 20s, began testosterone ~ aged 24 and seems happy & successful. He is frank about side effects but has no regrets. Would use this as an example of the right way to go. Stay on topic: he was not a kid when he decided.

We are denying a basic axiom: a life free of medications and surgeries is clearly SUPERIOR to one where one is a life-long patient. 10 years post-transition, health and functional status outcomes for people who transitioned are frightening. Why are pretending it's "all good?"

Who is pretending it is all good? Being free of medications is a good thing. Not everyone is lucky enough to be blessed the biology/psychology/genetics of a medication free life. In the specific example under discussion medications are better than life long angst.

Our
#ROGD kids did not have the "angst" until they got caught in the trans zeitgeist. They were happy, confident, sometimes GNC, but NEVER suffered from being in the "wrong body" until they were told so. Anorexics have angst too and want a liposuction-but get therapy instead.2 replies 0 retweets 6 likes -
What puzzles me as a mom of an
@ROGD teen is how eagerly the medical community embraced medicalization of gender dysphoria. What evidence do we have that teen-onset desire to transition doesn't pass? That hormones and surgeries are the right path for this previously unseen group?1 reply 0 retweets 3 likes -

And why isn't anybody besides Dr. Littman researching what's staring all of us in the face: the fact that adolescents, and especially young women, are suddenly identifying as trans IN DROVES? Where's research on how to help them without the use of harmful drugs and a scalpel?

Where Dowling might come into this discussion: He's a YouTuber idolized by #ROGD teens. It's a new "affirmative" era now, w/the advent of social media & likely social contagion; so different from the "old days" when medical transition was both rare AND only available to adults.
