This is an important article, worth reading every word. Blank slatism & "biological sex is a spectrum" believers are both based in the ideological refusal to accept replicated evidence--along w/ the too-frequent conflation of *averages* w/ determinism. https://quillette.com/2018/11/30/the-new-evolution-deniers/ …

So important, not just b/c science denial is a tactic of TRAs but also b/c it’s an Achilles heel for feminism. Just as there’s no basis in science for saying sex is a social construct there’s none for saying normative sex-based diffs in personality are just b/c of socialisation.

There’s v strong evidence that normative diffs between the sexes a) exist, b) have some basis in biology & evolution, even if they’re also exaggerated & policed by social convention. Which complicates the radfem argument a/b gender being an externally imposed social construct.

Ofc binning blank slatism in sex differences also helps torpedo the TRA schtick about magic inner gender essence that has no reference to physical being. It’s a dilemma.

The radfem description of the ways social gender gets used aggressively to control women is hugely important. I’d love to hear from feminists thinking about with how that can be squared with the science that strongly suggests normative sex diffs have a basis in fact.

At the moment it feels slightly like feminists want the support of science to challenge gender ideology but are less keen when it comes to considering the impact on feminism of the scientific arguments for binning blank slatism. Hopefully I’m reading the wrong feminists?

This is pretty much my position rn. What's frustrating is that (as the article
@4th_WaveNow shared states) people read 'normative differences' & hear 'traits in mutually exclusive binary opposition with a culturally enforced hierarchy valuing one set of traits over the other'.3 replies 0 retweets 3 likes
Radical feminists are often seen as rigidly married to social constructionism. Some feminists think the replicated cross-cultural science on [NORMATIVE, not individual) sex diffs endorses sexist behaviors/policies. It doesn't & ideological rejection of science doesn't help anyone
