Regardless of whether or not there’s a biological component, gender identity can certainly evolve & there’s nothing wrong with that.

It would be completely unethical to conduct such a study to test for these effects using a randomized control trial. No ethics review board would approve such a ridiculous suggestion. Thus, we have the existing literature using observational cohort and case-control approaches.

Exposing trans youth to social conditions which we know to be harmful (e.g., non-affirmation of gender expression or any version thereof) would be akin to infecting folks with syphilis & not treating them to "see what happens" (hello, Tuskegee). This suggestion is ridiculous.

Please read Dr. Cantor's article. There is a third way, you know: fully supporting a child's gender atypicality but not endorsing the notion they are "really" the opposite sex. Comparing that kind of loving support to Tuskegee is absurd.
