Gender Identity Disorder was renamed Gender Dysphoria in DSM5 on the view that that label would be less offensive to patients. The diagnostic criteria are basically the same as before, however. Removal was impossible because insurance needs a diagnosis.

Hopefully we can de-stigmatize gender non-conformity to the point where it's no longer a diagnosis, and hence insurance companies will stop paying for healthy body part amputations.

None of this is an accident. It all comes down to who maneuvers themselves onto the relevant committees. It's not as if any randomly selected group of experts would produce the same results.

A progressive is all about "everything goes" and it hurts others who really need help. Not to mention the parents might need some help as well. It's been almost 11 months for my child and I can't get help for me because most psych' are progressive in Ontario.

alternate realities = disorder Seems like the current Tumblr crowd are collecting DSM codes, they love thinking they have a disorder and that transition is the cure-all.

Good point. Seems like for some it's a mental disorder, and for others it's a social movement. The majority (even if a slight one-60%) don't try to kill themselves. The truth is we need differential dx. Some need mental health treatment, others, esp ROGD teens, need internet cut.
