Have seen many trans activists say "gender incongruence" is essentially a birth defect. Hormones and surgeries may be needed (but not required--only if the person wants them) to "correct" the birth defect. Medical necessity. It was a clever strategy and they succeeded.

Maybe “destigmatise” is more accurate than “depathologise”. Moving GD out of MH and into sexual health means they can treat it medically. All a bit arbitrary as you can’t really separate mental health and physical health.
