Setting aside the question of whether there actually IS such a thing as a "true trans" child, it's absurd to claim that parents who report on a rapid onset of dysphoria in in their teen "believe in" #ROGD , as if it's a faith-based ideology...you know, like "gender identity."

Another absurdity in this "you bigoted parents believe in ROGD but it isn't real, you were just too mean or clueless to notice your kid was trans" trope: These very same ppl who dismiss THOSE parents TOTALLY BELIEVE the parents who cheerlead their kids into medical transition.

Right; it's not about whether it's real (*some* dysphoria does have RO, even if you just include self-reports), the uncertainty is about its causes, whether it's actual transness, but also identifying it from the outside. Hence asking caregivers on the outside what they observed.

We'd know very little about many psychological phenomena if we only went by self report. Especially when it involves reality distortion, dissociation, magical thinking, & reliance on the decontextualized memory, time-sense, & verbal/emotional acuity of children.

Transitions for youth are always taken slowly. Therapy is involved. But if you are going to love your child either way, who cares if they go by a different name and wear dresses for a while?
