'Solidarity to our sisters' Thank you for speaking out against the harmful 'Illegal Migration Bill' and its impact on pregnant women seeking safety. The Bill would reverse the 72hr time limit on their detention, risking huge harm to women and their unborn babies.

“[The bill] is extremely cruel and effectively destroys the right to claim asylum and will have life or death consequences for people seeking safety in the UK... It’s incredibly cruel and harmful, but also completely unworkable." of

Last week, two vital amendments to the 'Illegal Migration Bill' were raised – then either refused or not reviewed, leaving pregnant women seeking safety at risk of indefinite detention and harm. Our @carenza_arnold for @StylistMagazine @LaurenMedlicott ow.ly/gTB250O7LGh

"For those who are pregnant, the harm of detention is doubled, risking the health and safety of both the mother and the unborn baby... healthcare in immigration detention is often very poor. Antenatal care and support in detention often falls short of care normally available.”

We’re looking forward to meeting many Peers next week to discuss the harms of the ‘Illegal Migration Bill’. We’re hopeful that the Bill will face strong resistance in the Lords. Thank you Baroness Lister for speaking out and tabling an amendment.

The #RefugeeBanBill has passed in the Commons. If passed into law, it would cause devastating harm - including to survivors of gender-based violence and pregnant women. ❗️ must reject this Bill❗️ Solidarity with and all fighting this appalling Bill

Thank you @alisonthewliss for sharing Priya’s experience. Priya was detained at Yarl’s Wood when she was 20 weeks pregnant and was unable to access the services needed to keep her safe. This Bill will see more women like Priya detained whilst pregnant. 7/🧵

This afternoon, H, an asylum-seeking woman in our network, shared her experience of volunteering with elderly people in her community. ‘We need to share what we have. We need to treat people how we want to be treated.’ We so proud of H! She’s an inspiration to us 💜

"Compassion and kindness will always win over callousness, racism and cruelty." Talking about the inspiration for my book recently has been making me reflect on all the cruel, harmful ways this govt treats refugee & asylum-seeking women. Important thread from ⬇️

But we are better than this. For every voice of opposition and division, there were many voices of compassion and kindness. Thank you to all the MPs who stood up for those seeking safety and spoke out against this harmful Bill. 3/🧵

The damaging and inflammatory language used by some MPs during the debate yesterday was disappointing, yet unsurprising. Language matters. This hateful rhetoric seeks to divide our communities, ‘other’ those seeking safety and justify the Government’s cruel policies. 2/🧵
