Huh, turns out I can use the full waveform as long as it's not in the top two octaves. Delay between volume updates varies depending on octave so there is some bass to the low notes. (value in bottom right corner)

Some work on adding waves from source gameboy songs. I'm playing 8 frames of the wave each pitch cycle, but not sure I'll reach good quality for complex waves. (like the filtery one at the end) For most game music probably fine though. Testing with songs by

Thanks for the nice comments on the Gameboy video. If anyone wants to hear my other soundchip emulations on the SID chip here are videos of Atari ST & Commodore TED and Atari POKEY

Quick first pass, trying to play gameboy music on the c64. Uses a 6581 sid for the wave channel. I'm not decoding the waveforms from the song yet and volume envelopes aren't 100%. Song is by and thanks to for tech support from a few years ago. :)

More old archive. So way back in 2000 I was asked to do some music for one of Sudeki's early demos, by the looks of the filenames it was still called Symphony of Light then. This was when the design was much more directly JRPG inspired, hence the style choices.

Made a track for the "Like it's '83" competition that's on CSDB. (writing music in the spirit of really early Commodore 64 game soundtracks) Uses a simple custom player, I went a bit overboard on the visual code but it was fun to work on.

Nice audio detail I hadn't noticed before in Fallout 4. When a radio station is active I'd occasionally hear a burst of static, which turns out is when new synths teleport in nearby.

While looking for something else I found the guide songs for 'Gauntlet Legends' on the Gameboy Color. (from 2000) Most tracks were conversions of the n64 music, but I'd added a few Gauntlet-related tunes too. I have only one recording of the GBC version from an old showreel.

Some early gamemusic arpeggio fx, both from 1984. "Do Run Run!" (arcade, couldn't find the author) and "Kong Strikes Back" (c64, Martin Galway) Might be interesting to see if DRR's octave flips are a driver fx or hand-made per note. Earlier MrDo games used similar for their sfx.
