Is anyone going to point out that in reality it is to prevent alcoholics from going in to withdraw and needing medical and hospital support. It’s the same medically assisted therapy for Opiods are still being proscribed so we don’t flood the system with ODs

So where was that sort of thinking back in the 1920s?

They didn't know that people could die from alcohol withdrawal. Probably thought it was the demons leaving your system.

First part makes sense. Second part, 1920 wasn't that long ago.

This is beyond stupid, its been widely known for millennia that alcohol withdrawal kills. They just didnt care in 1920.

Ok let's say you're right it was know. Question is by who. All doctors? All people? The government? No some in the medical field of course. The people who thought alcohol was a plague on earth did not. The government who doesn't know how basic things work today didn't then

not true. people have known about alcohol withdrawal being deadly for a long time. the first clinical documentation was in the 1800s

So your claim is every doctor and person in 1920 knew this and treated it as fact. Theirs lots of stuff that was discovered way in advance that wasn't believed for ages. Even now we have anti-vaxxers, flat earthers, deniers of climate change, and the list goes on
