We have a creepy 1920s (or 30s) doll that stands about as tall as a 3-year old. We call him "Butch". One of our grand daughters thinks it's the creepiest thing, especially when its head is falling half-way off. https://twitter.com/41Strange/status/983464939099537413?s=19 …pic.twitter.com/0GiLTmCOQZ

She’s actually a very seriously beat up Patty Playpal from the 1960s. Source: I was a vintage doll collector.https://www.pinterest.com/pin/368028600781007407/ …

According to my wife, the doll had been in her dad's family when she was a kid. She was born in 68 and it had been in their family for a couple of decades. But she could have been told incorrectly. I'll ask her father.
-
Her face looks like relatively soft plastic. In the 20s & 30s, the plastic was hard and not at all flexible. Are there markings on the back of the neck or back? There should be some identifying marks. The thing that gives it away is her size also. That size was a big 60s thing.
-
The plastic is hard from top to bottom. and the only opposability parts are the neck and legs (to sit). There aren't any markings anywhere on the doll's body and the clothes are glued waist down (shirt isn't).
-
Ah interesting. The head looks vinyl from the photo, but you feel that it’s a hard plastic with no give? That hair is called rooted hair and is sewn in from underneath when the doll was built. Older dolls had a glued on wig. The glued-on clothes is odd. It’s a mystery!
-
Yeah. I just tried to press into the plastic and there was no give. You can see from just above the doll's head, there's a door knob; and it's standing on the floor, so it's rather tall. I'm not sure the clothes came with the doll. There's a size 4 tag on it from "Walls & Texas"!
