Back in 1911, one of the most talked-about Broadway roles was played by a woman dressed as a rooster. Audiences flocked to see actress Maude Adams in Edmond Rostand's "Chantecler"pic.twitter.com/zJ6Klz1OLC

You’re a true gentleman. But in Australia we call this a ‘Harold Holt.’ It’s the joke everyone thought of, therefore no one needs to make. It’s named so due a memorial pool we have inexplicably named after a Prime Minister who completely disappeared one day while swimming.

Chantecler? Wait, you mean that that book the mother in Rock A Doodle read to her son was based on a 1911 Broadway musical? Oh God... She must have been like one of those wine moms who love Phantom of the Opera.

Chantecler is the name of the rooster in "le roman de renard" written in France in the 12th century Edmond Rostand was French (like me ;) ) so he used this name. Chantecler / "chante-clair" means "sing clearly"
