In German history "Romantik" was all about the mysticism of nature. There was a strong connection to the dark as well as the divine, which can be observed, when one takes a long journey through the landscape.
-
There also was a strong nostalgia when it comes to the knights old. The mysteries and magic depicted in stories like "das Nibelungen Lied" inspired the fairytales which where collected and created by the brothers Grimm.
