In Japanese Folklore, Azukiarai is a demon who spends his time washing Adzuki beans by mountain streams. Hungry travelers drawn by the "shoki shoki" sound of the beans inevitably lose their footing and fall in the stream (Illustration Shigeru Mizuki)pic.twitter.com/gNBTcGi82e

Modern version: he makes sound of a microwave ping after wetting your hard kitchen floor. Loosing footing is inevitable as you go to investigate. Result.

What’s up w these extremely specific folk tales, next I’ll see “in Japanese folklore the Umakami is a horse headed demon who lures lonely equestrians to their grave with the sound of his shrill whinnying”

According to Japanese folklore, wherever you go, whatever you do, there's a highly specialized demon, witch or evil spirit with a plan to harm or kill you.

Anyone ever notice that in eastern folklore all the demons and spirits have jobs or at least some kind of basic task? Demons and spirits in the west are just hanging around waiting to be dicks. #GetAJob

Japanese folks folklore demons were all made by one man who was told that he needed to come up with a new demon idea every day for a year. This was day 256. He ran out of ideas very fast.
