Stop motion actually makes things creepier. Medusa from the first "Clash of the Titans" is creepier than the Medusa from the HQ CGI remake

Exactly. That was the feeling when I saw those great movies as a child. There was a sense of reality and unreality that was hypnotic, dangerous, possible. Like dreams and nightmares.

Nicknamed "The Ymir" - though never called that in the film - the grumpy Venusian from 20 Million Miles to Earth is my favorite of Harryhausen's creatures. So much personality!pic.twitter.com/qOCMDun57J

Ray Harryhausen is a maestro of animation & film in general. I’d hope that new film students & film makers would study his excellent body of work & learn at least the patience necessary to make a quality film.

The One Millions Years BC Harryhausen tribute at the start of @aardman's Early Man made me so happy.

I liked the stop motion skeleton scene in ....hmmm can't quite remember the movie ...think it might be Jason and the Argonauts or The Golden Fleece

Yep, Jason and the Argonauts. That sequence with the skeletons is great.

Yep, and without computer assistance too, it's hard to imagine just how long it takes to produce stop motion (unless anyone from Aardman is reading this, who is probably very aware).

That may be why I like the skeletons and the statue of Talos from "Jason and the Argonauts" so much. A lot of the supernatural stuff in that movie has this distinct and alien way of moving, it really feels like you are whatching something out of this world.

Totally agree with this quote. There's something incredibly sterile about the CGI-heavy films of today, the spectacle has somehow gone ... although that may be partly due to the lack of creativity/imagination of modern film-makers.

Modern CGI has it's place... but the original Xenimorph is more frightening than anything produced afterwards. I don't fear a monster that moves unnaturally and tends to 'glisten.' There's a charm and realness to past effects. Even in older video games.
