Practical effects are compelling, even when they're this old.

I think there's value in a tactile, real-world effect as opposed to a computer effect; this isn't to discount the hard, tireless work of FX wizards, but it can be very hard to see artistic distinction/idiosyncrasy when the work's stratified, computerized, and EVERYWHERE.
