In Welsh Folklore, the Gwyllgi "the Dog of Darkness" stalks travelers on lonely roads at night. Whoever encounters the Gwyllgi and catches sight of its red fiery eyes will be instantly paralyzed. Even its howl has to power to paralyze people with fear (Illustration Elyssa Long)pic.twitter.com/QIBNl7a9Sc

I like the image with the reddish background. However, I know enough about Welsh to know that it's not pronounced Gwill-gee. Though I do wonder how it is actually pronounced.

S'mae, I'm Welsh It's a hard g, and the double L's together make a sound I'm not sure how to replicate on twitter, but it's not quite 'sh' So it's gwi-ll-gee "Gwyllt" in Welsh means "wild"

Thanks. Is the Double L similar to the Spanish Double L so that it makes a kind of a y sound?

No... Its a kind of hissing noise from the back of your mouth? Sounds unattractive and bizarre 😅 "an aspirated 'l' which does not occur in English, sounded by placing the tongue so as to say 'l' and hissing out of one side of the mouth, e.g., "llan"" http://www.madog.org/dysgwyr/gramadeg/gramadeg1.html …

The Hounds of Arawn, King of Annwn (underworld/hell), were said to have red eyes too. Lots of red eyed scary dogs in our mythology!
