Also, while Clarke was writing the book (and sending updates to Kubrick), the Voyager probe had reached Jupiter, and photographing Europa, sent photos to NASA that exactly matched Clarke's description. Carl Sagan sent one of the photos, and written on back: "Thinking of you."
