        Like, imagine being sick in a time when medical science as we know it wasn't even a thing and waking up to a giant crow-man with red eyes staring at you (and probably poking you with a cane).

        They were scary but perhaps not primarily for that reason. It was more like seeing one was a sign of death. You can almost never expect good news coming from these fellas during the plague
