On the @CryptKeepPod podcast, they had an episode about a creature called the snallygaster rumored to live in the Maryland woods. The name is derived from the German "schneller geister" meaning "swift ghost."

-
According to the legends brought here by German immigrants, the schneller geister is a vampire-like spirit that silently attacks people & livestock, draining there blood. In German folklore, the physical appearance of the schneller geister is vague & ghost-like.
-
HOWEVER, the snallygaster is described as a huge monstrous bird-like creature. I wonder if somewhere along the way, someone confused the schneller geister with the nachtkrapp?

This dude is a sweet heart. He keeps the streets quiet from all of those noisy brats at night.

There is a similar being called "Schwarzer Mann" (Black Man) I think that thing inspired the Slenderman
-
Schwarzer Mann is actually just the german equivalent of the boogey man
-
Well, yeah of course he is. I ment that he is similar to the Nachtkrapp because he was also a scary monster supposed to scare kids from staying up past bedtime or sneaking out at night
