Well, in his defense, I'm a gadget junkie too...I have three Raspberry Pis and I'm getting ready to order two more. But they're only $40 each. How much did those catapults cost? Not to mention the shipping!

Yeah, they're never clear about what his day job is. Possibly he's an ACME test engineer? Which I find plausible now I think of it.

This is great! It reminds me of “Coyote V. Acme” by Ian Frazier for the New Yorker in 1990. About his lawsuit against Acme

The Acme Company cliché came about as a result of an agreement between the studios and the Federal Trade Commission in the 1930s that Hollywood would not use real company names as product placements and surreptitious advertising.

As I know you would. I’ll give you a hint. My favorite line from this character was “Son, I’m a-pitchin... but you’re not a-catchin’”

To this day, the “Son, I’m a-pitchin... but you’re not a-catchin’...” still makes me belly laugh until I cry. That is my life wrapped up in one sentence. Or at least life with my family who doesn’t share my dry sense of humor or strange/weird and/or esoteric references.
