It isn't computer generated images (CGI) as there wasn't any computers then. It is just double exposed film. They would record both scenes using the same film

I don't think it's even a double exposure. It looks like a jump cut followed by forced perspective. However it's done, it's a brilliant idea, and should be copied in new science fiction movies <grin>

It's definitely double exposure. Watch the larger man on the right's hand. It crosses the boxer a couple of times and the images are superimposed.

Ah yes. If they'd done that today the tall bloke wouldn't have given the game away. His hands would've been safely out of the way holding a joypad.
