It's so sad to think how much of his work is lost forever because of war, time, and accidents. There are film makers whose whole body of work has been lost because of carelessness and stupidity.

Gosh, yes. It makes my heart hurt. Every time I come across his work I am filled with delight. Like, there's a certain feeling or something his work evokes and it's just fantastic. To lose any art is tragic, so when I read about lost works due to wars and such I get so sad.

Yep!I know the feeling! Even the most conservative estimate puts it at 80% of all films before 1920.Silver nitrate goes up in flames real easily. We lost a bunch of films in the 70s in a fire in the National film archive.

I have started watching just movies made before 1920 and ignored the current cinema. I feel happier and with a wider perspective.
