Buster Keaton was a goddamned genius. Not sure if anyone yet has touched his mastery of physical comedy.

Indeed. Chaplin gets a ton of well-deserved attention from that era. But Keaton and Lloyd...killed.

I've never enjoyed Chaplin. I find him sentimental and arch. Except in Limelight. Keaton, Lloyd, Sennett, L&H

If u separate out early from late Chaplin then sure. The Great Dictator is precursor to The Producers. Mea culpa.

OK good point. I cannot bear pathos steeped in bathos with Princess Diana playing to the gallery eyes.
