Would love to know the evolutionary function of these features.

The huge nose is only present in males; female have a smaller, fox-like face. The enlarged nose allows males to make loud honking sounds. My guess is that the sounds function as mating calls, but males forage over a large range & females don't, so it could have to do with that.
