why does the giraffe look gigantic
-
Giraffes are more or less that tall I guess. A fully grown one surely is.
-
Google says 20 ft. Guess the giraffe was relatively close to the jaguar and the shot was taken low to the ground. Still looks like a prehistoric creature, must just be optical illusion.
-
If the photo was taken so low, wouldn't the leopard have looked slightly bigger as well?
-
It's probably taken with a telephoto lens from very far away; in non-telephoto pictures, more-distant objects look a lot smaller, but not so with telephoto. Giraffes are about 7x taller than leopards, so relative to each other, each animal is "actual" size in the photo.
-
Our minds, thinking that more distant objects need to be "smaller" in the image, perceives the giraffe to be gigantic, when really it's just a regular sized giraffe. Which are still friggin' huge.
-
Thank you for this insight!
